1st stage garments typically have zippers and are crotchless. 2nd stage garments do not have zippers, but most are still crotchless. You would want to clarify this before ordering. 2nd stage garments are also typically made smaller for more compression. This allows for the swelling that is gradually reduced as time goes by. Consult your surgeon about when he/she wants you to move into a 2nd stage garment (time frames vary). 3rd stage compression is more like tight exercise garments. Some doctors do recommend 3rd stage compression, but not all doctors. Again, consult your surgeon, before you spend the money on something you may not end up needing.
