Dimisil Scar Gel

Dimisil Scar Gel is specifically formulated for the topical management of Keloid Scars and Hypertrophic Scars secondary to trauma of the skin by surgery, burns, abrasions, or lacerations. Dimisil Scar Gel is a medical grade silicone compound. Dimisil forms a very thin water-repellent membrane over skin like an invisible bandage.

How long before the patient sees results?

Depends on the skin type, age of the scar, type of scar, patient’s history of keloiding, etc. No matter how old the scar, the patient should see improvement within 90 days. A 10-ml tube will last about 90 days on a 3 to 4 inch scar. Some see results in a couple days, some take weeks. For deeper more persistent scars, the patient may wear the gel sheet for 8 to 10 hours (at night) and then apply the scar gel twice during the day.

How does it work?

No one really knows how it works. Silicone products have been used for treatment of scars for many years. There are theories on how it works, but nothing has been proven.

How soon can the patient begin using the scar gel?

Dimisil cannot be used on an open wound. After laser, the skin must no longer weep.

Wash the affected area and pat dry. Apply a very small amount of Dimisil Scar Gel with a clean fingertip on the affected area. Take care to gently wipe away the excess. Use sparingly as excessive amounts may stain bedding or clothing. Apply twice daily in the morning and before bedtime. Once the affected area is no longer tacky to the touch Dimisil may be covered with a blush, cosmetic foundation or other camouflaging cosmetic.

Dimisil Scar Gel is supplied non-sterile in 0.34 fl. oz. (10 ml) tube
